Buttoning Up
Botum was born in 2024. Having started as an experiment with making a limited batch of
kidswear, it grew rapidly as more orders came in. The factory unit was set up in Madhyamgram,
a well-connected Kolkata suburb, drawing on a large hinterland of material and manpower.
In the next phase, logistics tie-ups were strengthened, and apart from the full-time workforce of
15 skilled and experienced workers, a contractual provision for up to 100 workers was ensured
to tackle large orders within timelines.
We are now in the third phase where we have started delivering large B2B orders, and are
gearing up for more.
The Founder
Botum is a wholly boot-strapped start-up founded by
Dipankar Dey Biswas.
Dipankar is a second generation entrepreneur from a family of Kolkata based engineers who
ventured into business at a time when most of their peers were satisfied with white collar jobs.
From automobile servicing to garment manufacturing, the family explored various sectors
successfully.
Dipankar wanted to continue the entrepreneurial spirit but also sought to carve his own niche.
He started BB Group Pvt. Ltd. in 2007 to bring their entire garment business under one
umbrella, from sourcing to delivery. Dipankar runs a very steady and successful industrial
garments production unit, specialising in safety gloves.
He moved towards retail wearables in 2019, and in 2024, ventured boldly into the new arena of
kidswear. Thereafter, his business acumen and market goodwill helped him grow it into a
thriving venture in just 4 years.
As a father himself, Dipankar is strongly committed to the quality policies of Botum, and does
not compromise on standards under any circumstance.

Botum gets the best cotton from central and southern India, and all colours, dyes, accessories
are tested to be safe for infant skin. Apart from carefully maintaining the standards required for
industrial certifications, botum runs third party QC on each batch of garments produced.
